Project Control and Cost Engineering
Project Control provides focus to engineering projects over the complete project lifecycle from inception to completion.
The project control service integrates critical business and technology led activities to improve results and deliver enhanced asset investment performance.
Project Process Model
The Process Control Model is the collection of the various phases of a project, providing a consistent framework and methodology. The Model has four stages.
Opportunity
The initial project appraisal and development of a business plan.
Definition
Development of the opportunity into a firm set of proposals.
Implementation
Procurement, detailed design, construction and commissioning.
Benefits
Project review to establish if the objectives have been met, identifying benefits for future projects.
Project Control
Project control supports the project process model through effective project management, using a series of tools and techniques. Key elements are:
· The work breakdown structure
· Project planning/scheduling
· Cost engineering (estimating and cost control)
· Risk and value management
· Reporting
Resultant benefits of the implementation of project control are:
· Improved project definition
· Co-ordinated planning including resource allocation
· Total cost control
· Progress monitoring and management
· Risk identification / mitigation and Contingency Planning
Cost Management
To manage is to be both ‘in control of’ and ‘responsible for’. These are basic principles in cost management and quantity surveying services.
The cost management systems actively control cost at all project stages to deliver 'no surprise' financial conclusions and is based on the delivery of cost management services, tailored to meet the requirements of individual clients and projects.
Cost Control
Incorporation of change management in project procurement allows full project cost control and enables informed, timely decisions to be taken.
Tender Documentation
Production of tender documentation entirely appropriate to the chosen procurement route, incorporating contracts and clearly allocating responsibilities, is critical to future success.
Risk & Value Management
The outputs from risk and value reviews require managing over the life of a project. Our cost management systems incorporate the status of these outputs providing focus to reduce / allocate risk and realise cost benefits.
Information Technology
The systems are based upon the latest secure IT platforms, including web based applications, allowing controlled access from any location and ‘real time’ reporting.
